Steps to Perform Zumba® Shuffle Move
Zumba Shuffle, also known as the ‘Beto Shuffle’ - inspired by the name of Zumba® Fitness founder, Alberto Beto Perez is a dance move that was created by him. The Beto Shuffle is considered a merengue step and is heavily featured in Zumba choreography.
Zumba Shuffle Steps
To get started, all you need is: a Zumba outfit, (something comfortable) a spacious room and merengue music playing and you’re ready to move on!
Remember – Don’t worry if you can’t precisely copy your instructor or the video. After all, it’s all about executing the basic move and adding your own ‘taste’. Big deal if you aren’t agile as your instructor - Perfection comes with practice.
Step 1 – Getting Started!
Stand with your legs wide and with your knees slightly bent.
Step 2 – Moving On!
Place your hands in front of you at chest level. As your abs get involved, move your arms and from side to side in a hitch-hiking motion.
Step 3 – Switching Sides!
Start by shaking your hips to the left. Raise your right hand, while leaving your left hand down, next to your left hip. Now repeat the same move vice versa. That is, move your hips to the right; elevate your left hand up, while leaving your right hand pointing down besides your right hip.
Repeat twice to the right before switching back to the left.
Step 4 – Feeling the Rhythm!
Now comes the time to groove with the tempo and really practice the move in full swing. The sequence should be: single, single, double.
Step 5 – Intensifying the Zumba Shuffle (Optional)
You can add intensity to the Zumba shuffle by keeping finger tips straight and raising your arms above head. Work the lower body harder by intertwining your legs and alternating toe directions. Twist your hips as you move your upper body to tone your abs as well as your arms.
If you have any knee problems, avoid this step.
Warning
Consult your Physician or Instructor if you’re experiencing any sort of pain. It would also be wise to visit your doctor prior to starting Zumba if you are new to excercising.
