Get energized with yoga
Feeling lethargic and lifeless? Skip the caffeine – yoga can rejuvenate you better than any drug.
Here are some recommendations for energizing yoga poses that can revitalize your body, mind and soul.
The Chair Pose
The Chair Pose helps you stretch your legs and calf muscles simultaneously, which makes it a splendid opportunity to get rid of any muscle cramps you may have, or to simply strengthen your leg muscles for running or other sports. All you have to do is stand up in the Mountain Pose – Tadasana, and straighten out your arms towards the ceiling. Then exhale deeply, bending your knees as your thighs are parallel to the floor. Hold this pose for 30 seconds and then release. Make sure to monitor your breathing patterns throughout this pose.
The Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose
The Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose is an energizing pose that not only teaches you the invaluable art of balance, but also helps you relax your hamstrings – an area where we tend to store our stress from continuous exercise. To perform this pose, simply prop your knee near your abdomen, holding up your foot with one hand, with the other securely behind your waist. Keep extending your foot as far as it can go, then hold it there steadily to keep balance. You need to hold this pose for at least 30 seconds before repeating the same process with the other leg.
The Crow Pose – Bakasna, does wonders for balance, revitalization and boosting positive energy levels. It’s also excellent for building stamina as it allows you to focus your concentration in a specific direction. To perform the crow pose, simply squat and place both your hands on the floor. You’ll need to withdraw your thighs up to your torso and place your weight forward. Now lift your feet off the ground and try to retain your balance. You need to remain in this energizing yoga pose for 20 seconds, then release and repeat.
Lord of the Dance Pose
As fancy as the name sounds, the Lord of the Dance Pose is also very energizing. The duo of back-bending and quad-stretching heals your stressed-out muscles after a long day. To try it out, simply bend your left knee off the ground, shifting your weight forward onto your right foot. Don’t bend your right knee – keep your leg straight. Hold onto your left foot with your hand, reaching back.
Alternatively, you can use your right hand to hold onto your left food and vice versa – whatever makes you feel more refreshed and energized. Propel your left thigh as high as you can, holding the pose for at least 20 seconds. Exhale deeply and repeat several times.
Downward-Facing Dog Pose
While the Downward-Facing Dog Pose doesn’t sound as flamboyant as its predecessor, it’s definitely an energizing yoga pose. It stretches key muscle groups in many different areas of your body, which makes it a popular choice for warm-up or cooling down after working out. To do this energizing yoga pose, simply begin on all fours on your mat. Then, lengthen your tailbone, propping your hips upward as your hands press firmly into the ground. Your feet must fall forward on the mat. Exhale deeply. Don’t let your shoulder blades sag; keep them firm and bow your head forward, keeping it securely (but not tightly!) between your arms. You need to remain in this pose for at least three minutes.
The Eagle Pose
Want to feel like this agile and graceful bird? Then try the Eagle Pose – Gurudaasna. All you have to do is bend your knee slightly, wrapping your left leg over the bended right. You can securely wrap your foot around your shin. Squeeze your thighs to channel your energy to your core. Cross your right arm over your left. Maintain this pose for 30 seconds, breathe and repeat.
A word of caution
While yoga is an extremely relaxing and revitalizing practice, it’s important to remember that these energizing yoga poses should not be practiced in specific conditions such as pregnancy, or if you suffer from spine problems or cardiovascular difficulties. Furthermore, these energizing poses need attention and an adherence to procedure. Follow the instructions carefully and make sure not to stretch too much or in the wrong pose if you really want these energizing yoga poses to do the trick for you.
