Do you often feel really tired during the middle of the race? Well many runners face a similar problem. There are ways through which you can avoid this. You need to get your body used to long runs, go out for a long run at least once a week. You increase the length by 1 mile every week; your ideal training run should be 1 or 2 miles more than the actual race length. However, keep in mind that it does not excess more than 8 miles than the actual racing event. By running long distance, not only do you make your body used to longer runs you are also improving your stamina, which enables you to perform better during the actual race.
Improving Racing Skills Tip # 2 – Maintaining a Pace
Many people start a race very fast and slowly start to lower their pace! You should maintain your pace throughout the race. For that you should get involved in speedwork which involves 400-meter repetitions. In the initial stage you can do 4 or 5 repeats but as you start doing better you should increase the number of repeats. Make sure that you keep pushing yourself to do better, maintaining your pace will greatly increase the chances of winning the race!
Improving Racing Skills Tip # 3 – Working on your Stride
Many people believe that leaping forward while running is a better option; but it’s not. Leaping forward increases energy drain, this means that you will get tired faster. The correct way to do it is to stand tall and to lean forward. If you feel that you are going to fall, then just step forward to gain a little balance. This allows you to use up lesser energy and to perform better during the race!
Improving Racing Skills Tip # 4 – Wearing the Proper Shoes
Wearing the proper kind of footwear is very important for racing. Do not wear shoes that are too comfortable! Surprised? According to experts if your support is coming from your shoes, then the muscles which support our framework cannot do their job effectively, which increases the risk of injuries. So wear running shoes and joggers which are just right, neither uncomfortable nor too comfy.
Improving Racing Skills Tip # 5 – Stay Hydrated and Eat Right
The importance of healthy eating has been emphasized on many different occasions. Make sure that you eat healthy foods that are rich sources of Vitamins and Minerals; this would enable you to perform better. Also make sure to stay hydrated, drink lots of water. If your body isn’t fueled up properly then you cannot perform as well as you expect.
