Ingredients
Spices, bay leaf

Spices, ginger, ground

Spices, pepper, black

Fresh basil
2 leaves
Salt

Fresh thyme
2 sprig
Lean ham, sliced
1 slice oval
Carrots, raw
2 large 7-1/4" to 8-/1/2" long
Celery, raw
4 strip 4" long
Onions raw
2 large
Turnips, raw
1 small
White wine
½ fl oz
Split peas raw
1 ¼ cup

Preparation method


  1. Chop an onion, celery, carrot, turnip and place aside.
  2. Rinse the peas through cold water. Place peas in a bowl with half cup water and leave to soak all night.
  3. Take a pan and add peas, their liquid and remaining water together with onion, celery, carrots, turnip, ham meat, thyme, basil, bay leaves and spices. Let boil slowly on low heat.
  4. Remove the scum from surface, if any. Cover lid and maintain to simmer on medium heat for 2 1/2 hours until peas become softened.
  5. Throw out the thyme, basil and bay leaves, ham meat as well. Cut 1 cup meat into strips and chop it properly.
  6. Now add chopped meat and white wine to the soup with seasonings. Bring to boil again and let simmer for 4 minutes. Now Serve hot into warmed soup bowls.
