Swiss cheese also known as Swiss Emental, is a variety of cheese originally produced in Switzerland. Swiss cheese has a more savory taste when compared to other cheese. It’s a mixture of tastes including a mild sweet taste, with a hint of nutty taste! Swiss cheese is commonly known for having holes, even though Swiss cheese is not the only cheese that contains holes. Swiss cheese has a shiny, smooth texture and is of a pale yellow color.
Many wonder why there are holes present in Swiss cheese, well the answer is simple. During the maturation process of cheese, carbon dioxide is released. Once it releases, it leaves holes, also commonly referred to as the “eyes”.  The size of holes in the cheese can be monitored by cheese makers by altering the temperature and acidity.
