Doing cardiovascular exercises offer numerous health advantages. For one thing, it keeps your heart healthy and for another, it keeps your body in shape. Using a treadmill or working out with Zumba are both great means of a cardiovascular workout. Treadmills offer the advantage to run in the comfort of your own house or gym, at a desired pace. Whereas Zumba is a Latin inspired class which is known to be fun, and may also be done at home with official DVDs.
In the Harvard Health Publications, it is claimed that a high-quality treadmill exercise can burn approximately 450 to 500 calories in 60 minutes.
Zumba, on the other hand, provided one with an overall body workout and according to the official website; Zumba.com, an average Zumba class can burn around 500 to 1,000 calories per hour – the amount being influenced by your level of fitness along with intensity of your workout.
Zumba has many other forms of Zumba classes which burn varied amounts of calories. Amongst these are; Zumba® Gold – a modified version of Zumba® for baby-boomers and beginners, Zumba® Toning – a Zumba® class that features body sculpting, Aqua Zumba® – a Zumba® class in the pool,Zumba®tomic – Zumba® for kids, Zumba® in the Circuit – a dancing class with strength training & Zumba® Gold Toning – strength training, designed for older participants and beginners.
In order to exercise with a treadmill, there are certain supplies you may need, including; appropriate footwear, a heart rate monitor and of course, a treadmill. For those who would like to fit in light weight training, you can use light dumbbells. Most people tend to like listening to music while on the treadmill; hence a good music player designed for workout can also be considered a pre-requisite for your motivation.
Zumba® also needs appropriate footwear; comfortable, athletic wear; a heart rate monitor and weights of your choice. For those individuals who choose to do the class at home, you will require the DVD set or game and the equipment on which to play it.
Treadmills are available at almost every gym. Treadmills also happen to be very easy for purchase. Basic models tend to be reasonably priced, while the advanced ones have exorbitant rates. One can also buy a treadmill second-hand.
Zumba® may be done in a class or at home. Zumba® can be done at home, by using a DVD or video game system.
The truth is that, neither of the two is “better”. Both offer great qualities which some people will like, while others may not like as much. If you enjoy dancing, and loud upbeat music, Zumba® is the right choice for you. If you enjoy walking and running, and wish to lose lower body fat, treadmills will work wonders. We personally suggest to do both and get the best of both worlds.
